Tumbled leather

Full grain calfskin leather is the outermost layer: the most premium part. The pebbled surface is the result of high pressure that recreates the natural grain while making the leather softer, giving the shoe a look that is both worn-in and elegant.

To create this effect, the surface of the leather is stretched and lightly pressed. The presses eliminate wrinkles and emboss a uniform pebble-grain into the leather. In the hands of our artisans, the leather is then carefully examined: only their keen eye is able to determine the perfect grain size for each individual shoe.

Blake stitch construction

This construction method secures the sole to the shoe using a Blake stitch - named after the machine used to create it. The result is a lightweight yet durable product that trained cobblers will be able to resole.

The process begins with careful study of the leather; after finding the best part, the artisan cuts and shapes it round the last to form the upper. This is then delicately hammered to smooth down the seams and soften the parts that come into contact with the foot. Now the upper is ready to be glued to the insole and then attached to the outsole with a Blake stitch; the artisan guides the shoe under the needle with precision and expertise.

Care

We value the signs of time passing. Here’s how:

  1. Use a brush to get rid of dust and dirt.
  2. Store your shoes in a cool dry place.
  3. After a day of rain, let the shoes dry away from any heat sources.
  4. Spray deodorizer/ sanitizer on the inside of the shoes and wait a few hours before wearing them.

Take a look at our care kits: you’ll find everything you need to ensure your shoes last a lifetime. They just need a little TLC.

Design

The biker-inspired Chelsea boot. Notice the leather decorative toe cap: normally in biker shoes this is to protect the shoe from rubbing against the gear lever.

On the toe cap and the heel we’ve added some broguing framed with a zigzag pattern that our artisans call sbizzatura

The tumbled leather gives it a rustic look, ideal for both the countryside and the city. The lining is in smooth calfskin leather.

The side elastic strips are wide and follow the shape of the shoe, while an inner bootstrap helps to slip them on.

This shoe uses Blake stitch construction: the upper part of the shoe is molded and glued to the insole, then attached to the outsole using a Blake stitch, to produce a lightweight flexible ankle boot.

Made in Italy

Production is based in Montegranaro, in the Marche region, where the tradition of shoemaking has deep roots. For a product that lasts, we only select leathers that age well and put our trust in people who have been in this industry for generations. The artisans in our workshops have learned the job through family and know each and every trade secret. Just like Genesio, who cuts leather with a keen eye and extreme precision.

Here are some of their stories.
